This here is the 2nd double page that I have produced.

I feel that this is a very messy layout this is because there are a large amount of spaces that are open and not filled with anything. For example on the left there is a larger amount of space with nothing in it. I feel that there is nothing that will be able to be placed there this is because there are 2 images on the double page already and it is a prorate space, and not a landscape space, so if a image had to be placed there it would stretched if not taken in a prorate angle. Overall I think that this is a very untidy double page spread and I will not think of using this layout for my final product.

This is is 1 of 3 double page spread sheets that I have produced by hand.

As you can see this double page spread looks nice and large and the title and picture form to be a decent size, and so do the columns, each column can contain a formal amount of text. At the start the first paragraph there is a large amount of text. This is adding more detail to the work and it makes the reader interested. There is also an image next to this larger amount of text, this image with have something to do with this larger text size. Overall I think that this is a very good formal layout for a double page spread and I may consider using this for my final design, but I would swap the image from the right to the left. This is because I will make the page look and fell more neat due to the fact that the text runs over it.

Design ideas

This here is the 3rd and final contents page idea.

This content page is very similar to the 2nd contents page, but with this contents page it just has chunks of text and not columns of text, this is not very good because a reader and get very board form reading chunks of text. On the contents page there is 1 large images and one fairly large image. These 2 images take a massive amount of space wish is not very good cause yet again I cant fit a lot of text in telling the reader whats in the magazine. This contents page has a pug that is within a page fold, I think that this is a good idea, but yet takes up room, I could place the pug on an image, or on the front page.
Overall this is a very basic contents page, and therefore I will not be using it for my final design, the idea that I will be using the 1st idea simply due to fact that it has more within the contents page, and it has a very nice layout that can be moved around on like the 2nd and 3rd contents idea.

Design ideas

This is the second contents page idea.

This contents page looks very basic, it has a very large image taking up most of the contents page. The title for the contents page is very large, with the image and contents page taking up so much space that there is barely any space for text, there is 5 main columns and 4 side columns. This is not a large amount of text for a contents page and doesnt tell the reader a lot with whats in side the magazine. I will not use this layout for my final contents page due to the fact that there is to little space to work with due to the fact that the image and title are so large.

Design ideas

This here is one of 3 contents pager design ideas, yet again I have drawn these out by hand.

This contents page is a very large contentes page this is due to the fact that there is so much on the contents page, there iis 3 columbs of text, 3 large pictures, a pug, and 3 small poster pictures. This is making the contents page look big. The title for the contents page is fairly large, it is on the left and side of the contents page. Overall I think that this is a very good contents page and I could consider using the layout for my final contents page.

Design ideas

(will be used as a layout for my final front cover)

This here to the left is my 3rd and final idea, If feel that this could be a real possible for my final design, this is due to the fact it looks clean, and it hold a lot more information than my previous designs it has 3 stories, spaced out, a main image a pug and plus images of a free gift wish is included, The title is nice and large, there is a pug which is easily visible. Everything on this design idea is a great idea and good layout for a final font cover. So I have decided to make this my final front cover for my music magazine.

Design ideas

This here to the left my my second front cover design, This front cover looks very neat but yet lacks in certain areas, The placing of the title on the left hand side looks to small and the it makes the top look bland, It is a very simple design it has a pug with two stories on it making it look very small (as in page wise). The main picture is just 2 people standing there, and not doing anything fun or attractive to make the reader want to buy it. I also fell that if I had to produce a magazine with in the form it would look very tacky and horrible. This will not be possible for my front cover due to the fact it looks really plain, boring and small.

Audience Profile

This here is Mike, Mike is a person who enjoys listing to rock music, he is 19 years of age and he is the typical audience that I am trying to attract to make my magazine successful, he enjoys listing to most genres of music but his two most favourite genres are Rock and Metal. Mike is still currently at collage and he doesnt have a job, so I dont want to make my magazine to expensive so he doesnt turn it down, I need to make it just the right price, I did a questionnaire to help me find out a price, I asked students in a collage who dont have jobs how much they would be willing to pay for a magazine from a store, most of the students said £2.99, So this is the price that I will be going with. This will encourage most students to buy the magazine. As my magazine is going mainly consintrate on Rock music, it would on attract a fraction of the students to buy it, so I would maybe have to mix 2 different genres together to attract a bigger audience, I would consider of putting in Metal, this is due to the fact that rock and metal are the same, this is also because most people enjoy listing to Rock and Metal, instead of just rock. This magazine would highly appeal to Mike and maybe even some of his friends, and other students within the collage with similar tastes.

Maslows theory of needs

This here is the Maslow's hierarchy of needs, Its is a theory of human motivation that is used in Psychology. It determines the needs of humans and then puts them into a pyramid hierarchy. The pyramid is constructed with 5 levels, each concentrating on different sections; Self actualization, Esteem, love/belonging, safety, and physiological. Each sector has different reasons, one is on friendship, family and sexual intimacy and the other is on breathing, food, water, sex, sleep, homestasis, and excretion. They all very around. To get my magazine to sell I I will need to make look appliing to the customer so that it will become an essential to them and make them by it, I why that I could make this succesful is also by making the magazine to the customers tast and think of what type of things they would want to see within there magazine.

Design ideas

Above is my initial idea 1:

This here is my first initial idea, this front cover looks really neat and it shows the hole of the main picture. It also shows many different pictures and stories that are within the magazine, it also has a pug on it which stands out a lot due to the size of it, the title is also nice large standing out letting the reader able to read the title with out any problems. This could be a possible choice for my final front cover.

MOJO Double spread sheet evaluation.

Colour: The colour of this double page spread is black and white this is sticking to the genre of the magazine which is classical music, it is also the same as the front cover page to which is black and white. The use of black and white is because they want the reader to feel as if they are reading something that is classical but yet with the latest news. On the right hand

Design: The design of the double page spread is simple but has some effects to it, the picture to the left has a curved effect on it making the page look nice, and not just simple and plain. The picture.

Pose, Style hair, and make-up: On this double page spread there are many different pose, many different types of hair styles. On this double page spread it is very hard to see whether or not the band is wearing any make-up.
But from what I can see they not, this is showing that
With the poses that are set by the 7 males are very different to each other. form left to right, the 1st male has a very homeless look to him, he has clothing that is to small for him and there is a big stain on the bottom of the shirt. He also has a very slouched look to him showing he doesn't care about his appearance or what people think of him, this is showing the reader that he is more and more likely to be homeless, his hair style is also very messy and long, showing he doesn't get his hair cut often. Male 2 on the other hand has a very striking poses, he is standing up straight, showing he cares about what people think about him. His hair style is also long but neat showing he takes pride in his hair unlike male 1.
Male 3 has a Elvis Presley look to him from the hair to the shirt that he is wearing. This is showing the reader that they are reading something modern but with picture form old times to make is they are reading something that is old.
Male 4, well, He is a different race to the 7 males in total, he is also located in the middle showing his difference. He is in a well struck pose, it looks as if he could be standing in a yoga position. He is wearing no top which reveals his upper body. His hair isn't anything special, it is just flat.
Male 5 is very different in the scene of begin odd. He has a very wired but yet striking pose, he has his hands on his coat which starts to show his chest area he is trying to stand out form all the other personal. He has blond hair is blond which is combed to one side.
Male 6 is different to the other in the way he is standing the way he is standing is really relaxed. There is nothing special about his pose, he is just relaxed. His hair style is and afro.
Male 7 has a a very strong pose, he has his arm around male 6, showing they may have a strong bond as friends with each other. He also has a relaxed pose. His hair style is long but neat showing he take pride in his hair.

How are word used on the double page spread: On the double page spread words are used to catch the readers eyes, like in on paragraph that has been blown up and put to the side the is the words 'bridges' 'standing' these can catch the readers eyes very easily.

How are word used on the front cover: on this double page spread words are used to catch the readers attention. At the beginning of the first paragraph the is the letter M, which is very large and upper case, just the letter M takes up 8 lines of the first paragaph, by the time the reader has turned the page he/she they can see this large uppper case M, this is very eye catching to the page. The first word of the paragraph is May, the M starts with the very large M, telling the reader that there is stuff to do with dates within the story. Also in the middle section on the right hand side of the page there is a large sum of text. With in this it says, "Ian Dury Burnt All His Bridges While We Were Still Standing On Them" This is showing the reader that there is storys about Ian Dury in the story which my interest the reader and the reader may also now what the small paragraph means.

Language: On the double page spread of the Mojo magazine modern language and and classic type language is used, this is very attractive to the reader because this is what the Mojo magazine is about.

Overall impression-how effective the double page spread is: I feel that this double page spread from Mojo is a relatively good for a classic rock magazine. This is due to the fact that the imagery on the magazine is in black and white, but yet mixed with classic rock and modern clothing adding a very good effect making the reader feel as if they are in they day and age. Words and language used on the double page spread are very classic rock style adding even more of and effect for the reader. Overall I think that it is very suitable for the reader to read this type of article on a double page spread due to the fact that it is very associated with classic rock wish is the genre of the magazine.

Evaluation of MOJO content page

Colour:
The colour of the contents page is very vintage. It is black an white, this goes with the front cover. On the contents page there is the colour red. The red highlights the main features on the magazine, it covers the features of the magazine, the page number of which the stories are on, and it highlights the sub-heading "Cover story". This sticks out on the page and make the reader want to turn to this page.

Design: The design of the contents page is very effective, this is because of the use of imagery used on the page. The image is black and white and stand out next to a slightly colorful page that uses bright colours. The general design of the contents page is simple, it is just text over an image, with the use of the colour red to make it stand out just that little bit more.

Images: On the contents page there is only one image used, this image take up the whole of the page, but the use of imagery on the contents page is very effective and can catch the eye of the reader very, very easily. This is because there is a young boy, look as if he could maybe poor, or if he could have no friends. This is because he looks very sad and lonely in the picture.
This can catch the readers eye easily, the reader will also know what page they are on after looking at the image.

Pose, Style hair, and make-up: On the contents page there is only on individual on the page, this draw the attention to this one individual. The pose of the individual is very sad and he is slouching, he has his head down and has sad looks eyes, the pose immediately shows the emotions of the individual on the contents page. The hair style of the individual is in a bush style, long, and it is curly , this shows that the individual is either poor or just prefers to have this hair style. He also has half of his hair covering his eye, this is showing the reader that he is very emotional because he dosent want to show half his face.

How are word used on the front cover: On the contents page there is nothing special, words are just used to show band names and so forth. on the bottom left of the contents page the is words used form a song, this just adds a bit of emotions to the page to go with the image.

Language: On the contents page of mojo the language isn't very effective. It is just sub-heading, which are peoples name/band names/singers name. It is just a simple contents page that the reader may just look at and turn to the next page.

Overall impression how effective is the contents page: My overall impression on how effective the contents pages is, is It is very simple, would only take a few seconds to reader, this is what readers want because they want to read the whole story and not spend hours reading the contents page, it is simple yet effective in the way that it is quick to read.

Evaluation of MOJO front cover

Mojo isn't a Rock magazine it a classic Rock magazine, the reason why I am going to analyse a classic Rock magazine is because in my magazine I want to create a Rock/classic rock magazine.

Colour:

The colour of the mojo magazine is black and white adding the classicalness of the magazine, the text is in gold and white make it stand out more so readers can read what is on the front cover.

Design:

The design of the magazine is very neat, but yet overfilling because there is a large amount amount of text on the magazine, the text is also very large which  make the page look very full.
Images:

On the front cover there are 3 images, The main is very large that cover the whole A4 sheet. The picture looks as if was taken in the 80s, this is because it is black and white and from the clothing he is wearing. The 2 images is an image on Corinne Bailey Rea, which looks like it was taken in the 90s, this is becuase there is some sort of of colour but barley any. There is another image on Ian Bury this looks as if it is animated, this is because of how bright the clours are, and how the shodow goes across his face.
Pose, Style hair, and make-up: On the front of the Mojo magazine, the male has a very long haired style, that is scruff, this is very 80s, this is the kind of hair style that most rock stars had in the 80s.
The pose that the male has is very tens and has a normal look to his face not showing any feeling, but is shoulders are very tens, this can been seen because it is a close up shot of the male.
The male appers to be wearing no make, it very hard to see if the male is wearing any make because the picture is in black and white.
How are word used on the front cover:
There are many different words that are used on the Mojo front cover, there are words like "SALYER" this is adding a small amount of aggression but not a lot, this is because it is a classic rock magazine, and not like the conventuralen rock magazine that uses alot of aggression. They also use the "FREE" this is very eye catching for the reader to see, and this may also attract the reader in to buying the magazine because they are getting something for free.
Language:
The language that is used on the magazine is very classic rock this is because they want to attract the right readers, and want people to read the fornt cover as if they are reading something that was published.
Overall impression-how effective is the front:
My overall impression on the front cover is, is that it is very affective being a classical rock magazine because the main picture in black and white, and the clothing that  the male is wearing is very 80s, this is adding to the
classicalness of it, it has the right font on the magazine making itstand, the coulours that are used for the text are very effective because it tells the reader that the magazine is classic, and will be worth paying the price.

Evaluation of NME Double spread sheet

This a double page spread sheet form the NME magazine, this double spread sheet doesnt look like on but it is because on one side we have a picture and the on the other we have the article.

Colour:

The colours used on the double spread sheet aren't very bright and there isn't a wide verity of colours either, they are many dark greys and reds, there isn't any background making the 2 pages very bland. The only thing that catches my eye on this page is the big picture and the red text.

Design:

The design of this double spread sheet is very different to the normal kind of double spread sheet, this is because the picture doesn't run on to the other page unlike the Kerrang double spread sheet. The overall design of the double page spread is very neat, the text is readable and it is space out nicely.

Images:

On this double spread sheet there is only one image, and this on band Gorillaz. The picture is very well presented and is very has some really good effect to it. The effects on the image are nice and crisp.

Pose, Style hair, and make-up:

The pose that is used by the animated character 1 is very is serious, he has his legs apart, arms folded, with a grin on his face to say as if he is going to do something really serious, Character 2 against the car is very relaxed smoking a cigarette with his arms folded. They both have long scruff hair, showing that they don't care about there, which could be a sign of aggression. They aren't wearing any make-up on there face, but you cant see the eyes so you cant tell if they on there eyes or not.

How are word used on the double spread sheet:

There are many different words used on the double spread sheet, and they are very effective to the reader and can keep them interested in the article.
The kinds of word they use are "CRAP" sign of aggression, "STUPID" another sign of Aggression, "HIT", all these words are very aggressive words, which is very rock punk.

Language:

The Language that is used on this double page spread sheet in NME is very aggressive, and associated with rock. This is what the reader with be looking for is a good magazine and a good article to go with it.

Overall impression-how effective is the double page spread sheet:

My overall impression on how effective is the double page spread would have to be very effective, this is because there is a nice big image, which then leads on to the article it self. The red on the article is very eye catching and it would sure make me read the article.

Evaluation of NME contents page

This is what the content page looks like for the NME magazine.

Colours:
The colours on the contents page are very bland, the on colour there really is, is the colour from the picture, and from the red text on the page, there is no background colour it is just plain white.

Design:

The desgin of the content page is very bland, this is because It is is like in allocate boxes. From the text which is placed in a box and the picture. This make the contents page look very boring.
There is also a very long list on what's inside the NME, This would make a reader really bored if they had to read all of what's on there. They need to cut down the size of the "What's inside section". Unlike the Kerrang magazine it has got a cut from the editor to tell you what there is to look forward to in the magazine, this could lead to people being unhappy, this is because people may what to read something from the editor. The title on this page is very boring it is just a in normal text and has no effect to it.

Images:

Just like the front cover there is only one image that readers can see. This make the contents page really boring because readers cant see what other bands maybe featured with in NME unless they read the "What's inside" section. Along with the image there are several paragraphs explaining what the picture is about.

Pose, Style hair, and make-up:

On the contents page there are 4 male that belong to a band. They are all standing in a relaxed but formal pose, (from left to right) Male 1 is wearing a formal coat and top wish makes him look very smart, someone wouldn't think he belongs to a rock band, but he does, he has very short hair unlike most rock stars. He also wear glasses, and you dont see that every day in a Rock band. Male 2 has untidy but yet smart look, he has longish hair and no make-up on. Male 3 looks the most punk out of all of them, He has got on a formal coat and shirt, he has long hair with a cap on, he has longish hair going over is ears, like most rock star that have longish hair. Male 4 has a very smart coat on, with a tee-shirt and jeans, he has glasses with short hair, and no make-up, he looks the least punk out of the 4.

How are word used on the contents page:

There aren't many words used on the the contents page. The main chunk of words are used for the pages (small Subtitles).

The words that are used on the contents page are, "SNAPSHOT" In upper case, and on the top of the page, this can grab the attention the reader very easily. Another word used is "STAR" in the sub-title, this is because of the above image on the contents page.

Overall impression-how effective is the contents page:

My overall impression on how effective the contents page is, is it is very bland like the front cover, it wont take long to design and it is very simple. It isn't very eye catching and I all most went passed when I was turning to the content because I was so bland. The image and colour use on the page is very bad, they could have used more image, and some more colour so it can catch the readers eye.

Evaluation of NME front cover

At first impression NME looks like a normal conventional Rock magazine. This is due the colour, design, and images used.

Colour:

The colour of the NME magazine is very dark with red, this is showing anger, aggression, and blood from the red. The main coulour on the front cover is black with and white, with red and white text.
The red on the front cover could be symbolising danger or blood, red is a very effect colour to use on a rock magazine because it shows that rock people are danger or fearless.

Design:

The design of the magazine is rock associated, this can be seen form the picture and titles on the page.

The design layout of the magazine is very simple, It is just on image with a load of text around it, this can be very effective because some people that enjoy listing to rock my not like all the effects like the Kerrang magazine.

Images:

On the front cover there is only one image, and that is the main image. There is one male on the front cover, he is wearing old fashion style boots, tight jeans, dark black coat, along with a dark grey and dark grey skinny tie. This is showing the reader that this magazine is a rocked based magazine.

Pose, Style hair, and make-up:

On the NME front cover the male is in a pose were it looks as if he is in still position, as if he as stop walking, he is looking at the camera with his head down. He has long hair, it is black telling the reader that he is some one who listen to rock or is in a band.

How are word used on the cover:

On the front cover of NME there are many different words used that are very affective and can catch the readers eye very easily. They use words such as "Death", " Vampire", "Rock'n'roll. These words can be scene by a passer by or some one looking for that particular words.

Overall impression-how effective is the front cover:

My overall impression on how effective the front cover is, the front cover isn't that effective because there is only on picture with a load of text cramped on to one page, this make it look very over crowded. But the colours on the front page make it stick out on the self in a store.

Evaluation of KERRANG Double spread sheet.

Colour:
The colour used on this double spread sheet in the Kerrang magazine is mainly black and blue, they are using the black to represent as the aggression/fear/rock, with in the black there is also dark grey cracks on, this is adding to the aggression on the double spread sheet. The colour blue is also used because it is bright, the words "we're going to" is highlighted in blue, this is because they want the read to read the heading of the magazine.

Design:

The design of the double page spread is very crisp, and it is very clear. The background of the double page spread is very neat, it is in black with dark grey lines going through it, this is adding good effect to the background and makes it look better than just black, The blue within the double page spread is very effective it make the reader read the highlighted sections, this also just make the double page spread look neater.
Where the text is located it has been typed on a note type paper. this is adding nice affects to the double spread sheet, it is also placing the text in one spot one they page, this makes it easier for the reader to read because they wont have to look in several different place for different text. The main tile is going right across the page, it has a tear effect to make as if it has been torn. This is adding aggression to he page.
In the left hand side of the double spread sheet there is a Kerrang logo along with a Relentless logo. The 2 logos are together because relentless is sponsor for the 2010 Dublin tour. In the top right there is a title "NEWS" it is in upper case and in red, this make it very eye catching for the reader, they will then now what page they are on.

Pose, Style hair, and make-up:

There are many different types of poses and style hair use on this double page spread. The use of the hair style is very affective because it is showing that is rock associated with rock, 4 males have long hair and one has short hair, and two of them have beanie hats on. They are all in a relaxed pose, and they have their arms on each other shoulders, to show that they are in a band together. (From left to right) Male 1 has very dark hair with no make up, but by having his hair it is showing the reader that he is a rock star. Male 2 has white indicting that he is a rock star, it is also the style he has his that tells the reader he is a rock star, he has a large amount of hair going from the top left down the past his right eye. Male 3 is wearing a beanie hat,he has a dark blond hair style, his hair is very long and is covering his forehead. Male 4 is in a relaxed pose, he is the only one wearing make up, he is wearing eye liner and eye shadow, the colours are very dark, this is telling the reader that he is a rock star, he has very long black hair that is in a punk rock style. The 5 male has short hair, this is not very rock, but he does has a small punk mohawk, to show that he is a rock star. He isn't wearing any make-up.

How are words used on the double spread page:

On the double spread sheet there are many different words used, they are all in upper case apart from the story/news on the page. By having words in upper case will add aggression to the page. On the double spread sheet they also highlight several words, like; "WE'RE GOING TO" they made the text blue to make it stick out and noticeable so they reader will read it. They also use words like "OFF!", this adds tension and aggression to the page because the reader would want to know what the story is going to bed about.
They also use the word "NEWS" witch is highlighted in red. It is in red to make it stick out so the reader knows that they are reading news and not a story.

Language:

The language used on the double spread sheet is very rock associated, this is because the language is very aggressive. They use language like " We're going to rock you faces off" it is very aggressive and in upper case, but is it creative and would make the reader want to read the news. They also use language like "Kick off the Kerrang relentless", This is in upper case adding aggression.

Overall impression-how effective is the front cover:

My overall impression on how effective this double page is, that it is very effective. This is because it is very eye catching with the blue and the heading. The colour used on the double spread sheet is very effective, there is bright colours i.e. the blue, and the red, the background is also affective and eye catching because of the light grey crack.
The pose, hair style and make-up on the page is very neat, making the page look good, this also makes the 5 males stick out on the page.

Evaluation of KERRANG Contents page.

Colour:

The contents page is very limited in colour, the backgroud is white, this connotes its a neutral page. It’s main purpose is to inform readers what will be included in the rest of the magazine. There is a constant theme on this page, it consist of black and yellow, and they are all the subheadings, masthead and page numbers are either in black or yellow. This keep the page tidy, and makes it easier for the reader to understand and read. Overall this is an effective contents page, it gives enough information to the reader without the page looking untidy or confusing.

Design:

At the top of the page is the title “Contents” this is in a big, bold font. It’s in a black box, and the font is a bright yellow showing that it is the title/sub-heading. This makes the page more noticeable to the reader, and evidently shows them what the page is about.

Images:

There are many images used on the contents page, all the picture are used for a reason. They used to show what band will be in the magazine and what will be in the magazine. The main picture is on Escape the fate, and it is the main story in the magazine in the story, this is show through the main picture because it is the biggest picture on the contents page.

The is also a picture on the editor on the contents page. The editor of the magazines tell you what will be in the issues and what they have done to improve some parts of the magazine.

There is also pictures in the right hand side of the contents page of Kerrang magazines, showing you that you can subscribe to Kerrang magazine for a monthly subscription.

Pose, Style hair, and make-up:

On the contents page there are many different images showing different poses, style hair, and make up.
